The global satellite market is expected to reach a value of US$357 billion in 2025

Friday,Jun 28,2024

According to the latest report "Key Drivers of Satellite Industry Development - Analysis of Supply Chain Strategies and Challenges of Low-orbit Satellite Manufacturers" by TrendForce, a global market research organization, as the global user penetration rate of low-orbit satellite services continues to rise, driving global satellite component suppliers to gradually enter the supply system of Starlink and OneWeb, two major satellite manufacturers, the global satellite market is expected to increase from US$283 billion to US$357 billion from 2021 to 2025, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.6%.

TrendForce pointed out that Starlink currently adopts a supply chain vertical integration strategy, and produces and assembles key satellite components in its own factory in Washington, USA. The key satellite components include payload channel components, Ka-band antenna components, filters and separators. Starlink produces key satellite components through the In-House model, which can effectively grasp the production status of components and get rid of complicated supply chain management operations.

In contrast, OneWeb adopts a highly outsourced supply chain approach, delivering key satellite components to regional Tier 2 parts factories for production, and then subsystem factories assemble some components and send them back to OneWeb's own factory-OneWeb Satellite for satellite assembly. Through a highly open supply chain system, most component factories cooperate with OneWeb and enter the low-orbit satellite market.
