BYD’s electric vehicle market share in Japan reaches nearly 3%

Sunday,Jul 21,2024

According to foreign media reports on July 19, BYD sold 1,084 vehicles in Japan in the first half of this year and currently accounts for 2.7% of the Japanese electric vehicle market.

Data from the Japan Automobile Importers Association (JAIA) shows that in the first half of this year, Japan’s total car imports were 113,887 units, a year-on-year decrease of 7%. However, the import volume of electric vehicles is increasing. Data show that in the first half of this year, Japan's electric vehicle imports increased by 17% year-on-year to 10,785 units, accounting for nearly 10% of total vehicle imports.

In the Japanese market, consumers have a high degree of trust in domestic brands. Japanese car manufacturers occupy more than 90% of the market share. For imported cars, foreign brands currently dominate the Japanese electric car market, but the number one Mercedes-Benz's share is only about 1%.

BYD is one of the car manufacturers with significant growth momentum. BYD has invested in Japan with reasonably priced electric cars of about 4 million yen and captured the market.

BYD's offensive in the Japanese electric vehicle market is expected to continue. In the first half of this year, BYD's sales in Japan increased by 88% year-on-year.
