STMicroelectronics' STSPIN32 series of integrated motor drivers adds eight new products to meet the low-cost, high-performance requirements of applications such as power tools, home appliances, and industrial automation.
STMicroelectronics' STSPIN32 motor drivers integrate STM32 general-purpose microcontrollers (MCUs) and feature-rich three-phase gate drivers to simplify motor control system design, save PCB board area, and accelerate end product time to market. The eight new STSPIN32G0 products integrate gate drivers with rated voltages of 45V, 250V, and 600V, suitable for a variety of application scenarios from battery-powered wireless home appliances and power tools to industrial automation, robotics, HVAC systems, and wired home appliances.
The new products integrate the STM32G031 microcontroller based on the Arm® Cortex®-M0+ core, which has the computing power to handle the hottest motor control algorithms on the market, including six-step control and vector control (FOC). FOC can be a sensored or sensorless motor control algorithm implemented with one, two or three current sense resistors. To help developers simplify system design, the new products also integrate other functions, including a 12-bit ADC analog-to-digital converter, internal reference voltage, advanced motor control timer, and digital interfaces such as I2C, USART, SPI, etc. Up to 32 general-purpose I/O pins (GPIO), 64KB flash memory and 8KB SRAM give developers the flexibility to run complex applications and innovative value-added features.
The four new low-voltage products are based on a feature-rich 45V gate driver for home appliances and tools powered by lithium batteries or up to 36V wired power, such as portable power tools and household appliances, cordless vacuum cleaners, robots, fans and electric pumps. The four low-voltage products provide users with different combinations of analog sensor inputs, GPIO pins, and dedicated analog reference voltage pins. All have 600mA source/sink current drive capability, integrated 3.3V DC/DC converters and 12V linear regulators, and can power internal circuits and peripherals without external power supplies.
The four high-voltage products provide users with 250V or 600V rated drive voltage and 200mA/350mA or 1.0A/0.85A source/sink current options, and come standard with ST SmartShutDown intelligent shutdown function, which can quickly protect the external power stage in the event of a fault. Target applications include home appliances, air conditioners, household refrigerators, industrial refrigerators, industrial electric pumps, and industrial automation.
The STSPIN32G0 series integrates circuit protection functions, including overcurrent protection, overload protection, cross-conduction protection, and undervoltage lockout to ensure system safety and help further simplify system design.
Each product is equipped with an evaluation board to facilitate developers to quickly start new designs. The entire STSPIN32 family supports the STM32 MCU development ecosystem, where users can access a rich set of development tools, software and evaluation boards, including the X-CUBE-MCSDK motor control software development kit (SDK) as well as parameterizable firmware libraries and motor control workbench GUI software. There are also MCU-specific software packages and middleware, as well as the STM32CubeMX configurator for easy project setup and performance analysis.
The STSPIN32G0 motor controller is now in production, with low-voltage products using a 7mm x 7mm VFQFPN48 package; 250V and 600V products are both in a 10mm x 10mm QFN 72L package.
